Creative Proposals

I've read about two amazing marriage proposals today and just had to share the cuteness. Besides we all need a little happiness in our day as we get to the end of another long week!

Be still my heart, this guy proposed with pumpkins. Seriously......amazing. He was going for a fall drive in Massachusetts with his then girlfriend (now fiance) when they came over a hill and written on the field in pumpkins was "Ari, Please Marry Me" So cute, and of course she said yes! Read the whole story here.

The second proposal was on the blog Bakerella. Apparently this guy knew how much his again then girlfriend (now fiance) loved the baking blog and how she checked it constantly. So he enlisted the help of Bakerella and she did a blog post about cake pops that then incorporated pictures proposing. Of course it was very technical of the timing and getting her to check it when he was there so he could propose. But luckily it all came together in the end. Read the actual proposal post here and the full account of how it all went down here.

So fun, I really do love a good proposal story.

Photography Mission: Engagement Ring Pictures

Don't have a heart attack, I did not get engaged. Ok had to get that out of the way. But one of my really good friends from college did. And her ring is Gooorgeous. Seriously gorgeous. Unfortunately she was having a really hard time taking pictures of it. And lets be honest, as soon as you get engaged everybody wants to see the ring. So she enlisted my help to get a few good pictures.

I've never photographed any sort of jewelry before, but I thought it would be fun to get a little different and unique with it. Instead of doing basic shots on white or black backgrounds I thought it would be fun to find different things to prop it on. Even incorporate her hands in the picture even if the ring wasn't on her finger.

I thought I would share my results with you. In case you need some inspiration yourself in taking pictures of jewelry or your own engagement ring. Even if you are nowhere near getting engaged, you can still drool over my friends ring. It is some serious bling.

Apples worked perfectly for holding the ring in place. And with the vibrant colors of green and red it adds a nice splash to the picture. I also liked the personal aspect of her hands holding the apple.

It was at this point that my friend called me out for mimicking the Twilight book cover. Danget, she caught me! Actually I hadn't realized that was what I was doing, but I don't really care. I'll be the first to admit my love for Edward runs deep. Ok back on topic this is about my friend's engagement, not my creepy love for a fictional character.

We both love fall, ok maybe I love it a little more than she does. But a bright orange pumpkin worked perfectly for displaying the ring. Especially since they are hoping to get married in the fall. It runs perfectly with the theme.

We did this little photoshoot on a picnic blanket at Iwo Jima. Of course the view of DC is pretty amazing so I couldn't resist taking this shot. You can see the Lincoln Memorial, Washingotn Monument, and Capitol blurred in the background. Ok and I kind of liked the cheesy representation since they met and got engaged in DC.

The flowers worked great for holding the ring in place. And the colors are gorgeous with the green grass in the background.

A few other random tips for lighting in case you want to do a similar shoot. We did this outside in the afternoon so we didn't have to worry about professional lighting. Morning and afternoon light are best for pictures. And sometimes you can't beat natural light over staged lighting. It also helps so that the pictures aren't blurry, which was what my friend was having problems with. So if you are going to take up close detailed pictures I suggest you head outside.

say "I do" to Georgetown's J.Crew

I have no intention of getting married anytime soon, (I have to say that so as not to freak out the boyfriend) but loving all things J.Crew this caught my interest.  Of course I've looked at the wedding collection online before and thought it was beautiful.  All the dresses are very classy and simple and not too bad price wise considering.  And I'm a huge online shopper.  But I would never order my wedding dress online.  So I've always kind of written J.Crew's wedding collection off.  But that has all changed because now you can make an appointment at the Georgetown store to view their line!  So if you are getting married anytime soon call Theresa at 202.965.4090.

Adorable Photo Booth Proposal

My friend Katie sent me this adorable proposal story from Smitten.  Apparently this guy proposed to his girlfriend in a photo booth.  Very cute.  He must have done it fast...either that or he kept feeding it with dollars!  Visit Smitten to read the full story.

DIY Wedding Hair

I am really digging this do-it-yourself updo.  Lately I've been experimenting with new creative up hairstyles and while this one is definitely for a fancy occasion, I'd love to try a less intricate more casual version of this.

Also this hairstyle is perfect if you are a bride on a budget and have a friend that is good with hair.

Max Wanger's Photographs are Amazing

I've already expressed my love for Max Wanger Photography once when blogging about Joanna and Alex's engagement pictures, but I just can't help but do it again. His photographs are so fresh and unique. Below is his newest set of engagement pictures of Grace and Dominic.

2008 Best Wedding Photography

Let me just say I am a sucker for Wedding Photography.  No I don't have wedding fever or anything like that.  I just love how beautiful and special the photographs are.  There are so many happy and intimate moments captured and you can get so creative.  Ok so now that I've defended myself enough as a single girl not planning a wedding, Junebug Weddings is featuring the best wedding photographs of 2008.

Now I've seen a lot of wedding photography (am I incriminating myself even more?) so I wouldn't say all of them are the BEST but they are all still extremely beautiful.  So if you are planning a wedding this is a great way to find a few photographers/ideas and if you aren't I still give you permission to enjoy browsing.

Gorgeous Engagement Pictures

These engagement photographs have definitely made their rounds about the blogosphere this week, and you can see why.  Joanna Goddard shared her gorgeous engagement photographs earlier this week with her readers at A Cup of Jo and since then I've seen many posts about them.

But I can't help but also share them as they are way too adorable.  It makes me want to grab a balloon and take some candid photographs just for fun.  You can find more of these picture's at Joanna's blog and on the photographer, Max Wanger's website.  Enjoy!
